Keikyu Group makes the decision to commercially develop the Shinagawa Station West Exit Area District A New Construction Plan (tent.)

2024/03/25

At the meeting of its Board of Directors held today on Friday, March 22, 2024, Keikyu Corporation (Head Office: Nishi-ku, Yokohama; President & Representative Director: Yukihiro Kawamata; “Keikyu” below) made the official decision to commercially develop the “Shinagawa Station West Exit Area District A New Construction Plan (tent.)” (the “Plan” below) in the Takanawa 3-chome, Minato-ku, Tokyo area (former SHINAGAWA GOOS site).

Keikyu promotes development projects in the vicinity of Shinagawa Station with a view to realizing “Shinagawa as a site of international exchange that will drive forward the growth of Japan from here on out.” In the Shinagawa Station West Exit area containing the Plan site, the project plan for the “Shinagawa Station West Exit Land Readjustment Project” implemented by the Urban Renaissance Agency (“UR” below) as the executor was approved by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in June 2023. This was followed by designation of provisional replotting in that project by UR in February 2024.

Under the Plan, the development of a facility for office, commercial, hotel, MICE (conference/multipurpose hall) and other uses is being planned with the aim of realizing a complex that befits Shinagawa as a site of international exchange. New construction of the facility is scheduled to commence in FY2025, with the opening of the facility targeted for FY2029. By inheriting an environment blessed with ample nature despite being in front of a terminal station, which is a distinctive characteristic of the Plan area, as well as the role of that area as one that has received honored guests since times of old at locations such as a former Imperial palace and daimyo mansions, Keikyu will promote urban development suitable for the face of the area in front of Shinagawa Station, which welcomes people from all over the world.

Additionally, Keikyu will newly conclude an agreement with Toyota Motor Corporation (“Toyota” below), a joint operator of this project, on the partial transfer of applicable land holdings and on the joint building and operation of the planned building in order to promote urban development in the Shinagawa Station West Exit area. Toyota, which has been participating in the Plan as a joint project operator since April 2020, will proceed to promote the Plan based on an even more formidable partnership through this land transfer and agreement. Note that Toyota is slated to acquire part of the offices in the planned building in question and open a new Tokyo headquarters there in FY2029.

Together with Toyota, which develops its activities on a global scale, Keikyu will continue to promote urban development in the Shinagawa Station West Exit area in order to fully utilize the potential of the area in front of that station, which is expected to become further internationalized, is within immediate proximity to Haneda Airport, and will be also linked to Nagoya via the Linear Chuo Shinkansen Line.
